Hot off the grill, it's a crispy new NOR CAL Report! This week, it's all hardball, as the hometown crews swing for the fences:
The A's struggle through their offensive doldrums and awaken to a surprising new group of infield sticks to compliment their young arms;
And the Giants continue to look solid despite their modest run totals, as the Padres and Dodgers provide some hefty food for thought on their chances at postseason glory.
UP NEXT: The Gi'nts and A's continue to plug on in the West, as football minicamps offer some exciting competitions at quarterback, receiver, and beyond.
The NOR CAL Blog:
All the latest info, anecdotes and opinions from the Report's own Jess Zitrin.
Barry Zito's eight-inning complete game last week helped him avoid the longest no-CG streak in history — a record held by another familiar Giants lefty...
There's some good info and a great story or two in the recent Jerry Crasnick piece on Randy Johnson and his fellow oldsters — but perhaps the biggest news is his impending 300th win. After R.J., no one has even 250 — and the active wins leader among pitchers under 36 years old is — wait for it — Livan Hernandez...
A's fans, take heart — although it's true we and others make the Giants' season out as hopeful, the A's as myopic, it's also true that the A's have stayed as close or closer to first place than SF...
Look, not to kick a colleague when he's down — and Ray Ridder's a nice guy. But the Warriors' media chief surely knew better. By way of sourcing, the actual site was WarriorsWorld.net (Ridder's taken full and individual responsibility.) As investigating journalist Tim Kawakami has it, “The Warriors spend more time [and] effort worrying about covering up what’s broken than actually fixing the damn thing..."
Bet you didn't know that Jack Kerouac was into fantasy baseball — no, really! There's a new book about it.
Thanks as always for checking us out. And there's always more — on The NOR CAL Report!
