Welcome to an all new NOR CAL Report! This week, the Report welcomes A's stalwart Nomar Garciaparra to the show. Plus, there's plenty of action on the playoff ice, the hardball field, the futbol pitch, and beyond:
The Sharks are again swimming for their playoff lives, as the Ducks control the surface of this surprising series. But are the Sharkies sunk, or is their 2-0 deficit merely a product of a few bad waves?
The A's have to be encouraged by their inexperienced starting pitching, even as they continue to piece together the whole puzzle. And speaking of young pitching, where did Andrew Bailey come from?
The scuffling Giants drop a road trip — an entire road trip — to Southern California, but return to the castle for the return of pitching sanity, and two of an exciting three games against another division rival...
And the Earthquakes settle for a single point against sinking rival Los Angeles, sans Becks. Can the revamped offense hold up against surging Seattle?
Northern Cali's heatin' up — but it's always smokin' on The NOR CAL Report!
UP NEXT: The lads weigh in on the Sharks' playoff fate — plus, the A's and Giants sneak into contention in the West, while the Earthquakes show the newbies the ropes in Seattle. And don't forget to check The Nor Cal Report for all your NFL Draft coverage!

All the latest info, anecdotes and opinions from the Report's own Jess Zitrin.
You'll forgive me for putting this first in a sports blog — but Lex's band put out a sweet album, and some big local heads are taking notice...
Last week, Jonathan Sanchez, Tim Lincecum, and Randy Johnson provided the Giants' hitters with some much-needed support. But between the lines of the game story is the Giants' familiar struggle with plate discipline. The normally prescient Giants announcers have acted surprised at the squad's lack of discipline — but the fact is, the G-Men have always been among the game's worst at strike zone judgment in the Brian Sabean era...
Oakland A's fans are plenty tired of hearing about Lew Wolff and friends trying to swing stadium deals in the South Bay. But he has — convincing San Jose to lop 1/3 of his share — or $40 million — off the price tag of the West Airport site for the San Jose Earthquakes planned new digs...
And if you're in the mood for retribution for Bay Area baseball, there's word that the Giants' 2002 World Series drama was indeed tainted by performance enhancing drugs — taken by their opponents...
How did Super Bowl record holder and 49ers great Ray Wersching end up on the wrong end of a police battering ram?
And what the hell is Earthquakes star Arturo Alvarez doing in Cosmo Girl? Some free marketing, I guess ("Age: 23. Dating Status: Single...")
No doubt you caught this by now, but some guy named Newsom is running for CA governor...
Remember when MMA was outlawed, and heavyweight boxing was king? (If so, your fightin' days are in the rearview mirror.) I loved the recent S.I. piece on the incredible competitors, Ali and Frazier, at the Thilla in Manilla — and how it very nearly killed them both. The book should be well worth reading...
