** Thanks for making The NOR CAL Report a success. Don't forget to tell your friends! **

It's time for an all new NOR CAL Report! This week on the Report:

The Sharks cruise along, avenging a web-footed walkover and tuning up nicely for the playoffs. But who will they face — and are the team's playoff chances better than its members' trophy hopes?

It's Opening Week, and both the A's and Giants have a lot to crow about this year. If you find yourself betting one team could beat the other and surprise in '09, Jess and Lex prove you're not alone...

The Earthquakes' season is well underway, and despite a rousing win against a bitter rival, the Quakes are shaking in fear that last year's bugaboo has returned...

As the NFL Draft approaches, the Raiders bring in a surprising name, all too familiar to Niners fans...

And the Kings and Warriors are so irrelevant, the boys consider skipping them for a week. Who would notice?

It's time to tell it like it is. You always get the real dish, on The NOR CAL Report!

UP NEXT:  The lads analyze the first week of hardball, kiss the hardwood a blissful goodbye, and wish the Sharkies well in the impending playoff smorgasbord.

The NOR CAL Blog:

All the latest info, anecdotes and opinions from the Report's own Jess Zitrin.

Nice to see that the Sharks, tooling up for the playoffs, are about as healthy as they've been all year. They got two big names back this week...

The venerable John Shea points out that two former Giants, mainstays of the 1990s staff, are still trying to cut it in the N.L. Shawn Estes will have covered the entire N.L. West if the Dodgers call him up as a reliever — but admits of his minor league assignment, "
That's depressing, thinking about going to pitch in Albuquerque. I might as well go pitch on the moon...."

Dept. of Corrections: We said on the show that we'd set Jeff Garcia's records straight, so here it is: Garcia threw for more yards than any Niner in history in the 2000 season. But Steve Young's magical 1994 — think six Super Bowl TD passes — stands as the highest rated season of all time, red and gold or otherwise.

APB to Report faithful who ski, snowboard, or are thinking about it: the inimitable Squaw Valley USA, jewel of the Nor Cal snow scene,
has drastically slashed next year's season passes if you buy in the next month or so. (Alpine and others are doing the same.) Yes, Kirkwood is for purists in the know, like myself — but at these prices, you can do both...

Another heads-up: like me, you probably have chronic low back pain or something comparable. Right now you can participate in a sweet study that uses real-time brain imaging to try and fix it. The catch: I just can't get down to Menlo a dozen times.

Thanks as always for checking us out. Join us again next week, on The NOR CAL Report!
