Welcome to a fresh new NOR CAL Report! This week on the Report: Lex sings his swan song before dipping to South America, as the lads have kudos and putdowns aplenty. The Sharks weather some bumps but keep it rollin', the hoopsters bum out the fansters, and the baseball and football squads both make offseason noise — including the most sobering kind. We take this stuff seriously — on the NOR CAL Report!
The Sharks roll on, trading out a couple of tough losses for some more solid W's — plus some fresh blood at the deadline. But with their goalie on the fritz, are the fish truly where they want to be?
The A's continue to attack the winter with vigor, inking two veterans who promise to make a real difference in the infield. But the biggest news is where the green and gold won't be playing in the future — which leads to wondering where they will;
The Warriors aren't impressing anyone, poaching the Wolves but otherwise coming up woefully short. Does Nelson's sit-a-star program make any sense at all? And is the young core reason enough to stave off a fan boycott?
The Kings, fresh off a surprise finish in '08, have flatlined in '09. In one respect, they have a positive to point to that the Wa's do not. But can you really sell a fan base on cap space?
The 49ers flirt with a Super Bowl hero, and manage to ink a brand new QB.... only it may not be the one fans were hoping for...
And by contrast, the Raiders hear the kind of news that reminds us why we turn to sports in the first place.
Don't forget to flip your clocks, 'cuz spring has sprung — on The NOR CAL Report!
UP NEXT: Jess presents a solo take on the windup to the MLB and MLS openers, the NBA wind-down, and the long-awaited NHL playoffs. Lex, meanwhile, debunks the myth that the only good Chile comes from Texas.

All the latest info, anecdotes and opinions from the Report's own Jess Zitrin.
A's fans are wondering: does Mayor Dellums' outreach to MLB brass mean the team could stay in Oakland — or another Yankee Stadium-sized dose of heartburn? Ray Ratto, for one, is not impressed...
Yes, Giants dreamers, it's true: Manny remains a Dodger. But the press conference is still entertaining — and if you're a true believer, it's more than irony that it happened the same day Dallas released T.O...
And, yes, in an afterthought, the 'Ants released Dave Roberts. The second-saddest fact: Roberts is a genuinely good guy. The saddest: the $18M they gave the career backup in the first place. Meanwhile, their latest signing could mean a long-overdue international presence...
Warrior rooters, I keep trying — trying — to have something to perk you up. So here's one, Thank God It's Not Us deparment: this week's ESPN Mag piece in which Bill Simmons catches up with a beleaguered Baron Davis...
I'm on record this week giving Brian Boucher a brief vote of confidence. But if he and Nabby both struggle, what exactly do the Sharks have to offer the Stanley Cup Playoffs?
And last but certainly not least, whether or not you check out Lex's poppin' cd release jam at the Elbo Friday, remember to bounce over to the Raw Deluxe site for fresh audio — and a free attitude adjustment. For true fans, remember he's touring with The Mainstream, and coming soon, the CalmOdee track featuring Lex side by side with the legendary Too Short!
And for anyone worried about dead air next to me while Lex wears out his passport — legitimate concerns, no doubt! — I've got some great guests lined up in the coming weeks, including a refreshingly pure take on the NBA draft and salary cap, plus exclusive audio with perhaps the best goalkeeper in MLS history. There's always something new for you — on the NOR CAL Report!
