Welcome to the Happy Holiday edition of The NOR CAL Report! In this episode, Oakland fan favorite Huston Street shares the mind of a closer, through all 12 months and 9 tense innings. Plus: while hardball lies dormant, the gridiron's looking up. Let the lads "usher" you into the new year!
The Raiders once again confound their fans, mixing a convincing win into a lost season. Does this mean the young talent can overcome their case of the Cap'n Al crazies?
The 49ers sleepwalk through the Lams, but Hill and co. get it done when it counts;
The Sharks lose a nasty one to the resurgent Wings. Do back-to-back L's mean the fish are weak — or merely human?
The Warriors watch the new kid drop 50, then drop another contest to the Magic. Suddenly, Nellie's rotation has become As The World Turns...
The Kings fight through their first week under the new coach. Who's responding to the regime, and who might get pushed out?
It's the season of sharing — so remember to have a safe one, and share your love of The NOR CAL Report with all your friends and family!
UP NEXT: Remember to take a trip through our archives, as Jess and Lex run out of excuses for spending some down time with their loved ones. Stay tuned for a loving look into the nascent '09!

All the latest info, anecdotes and opinions from the Report's own Jess Zitrin.
As I was typing in this week's title, the blog started to autofill the title, "December, 2007." Looking back, I saw Mikhael Pietrus, Too Short, Torrey Mitchell and Mike Grier. I'm certain I enjoy these shows as much as anyone. And that's why I do this...
Dr. Obvious — a.k.a. John York — has finally finds his comfort zone, in the latter part of the adage, "Lead, follow, or get out of the way." Jed York has been elevated to team pres, and Mike Singletary is proud owner a hefty head coaching contract. Also hitting the door: Mike Martz. That's right, the Niners haven't retained an O-coordinator since two years before Alex Smith...
Now that's leadership: Leading up to Sunday's throwback game vs. the 'Skins, Niners QB Shaun Hill officially declared "Moustache Monday." Meanwhile, the Rams highlights show Hill — who runs the game like a pro — throws a truly lousy ball. Doesn't matter, says Gwen Knapp — 7-3 with him vs. 5-17 without him means he's in. I say, you could draft a mid-rounds QB project — or just retain the more experienced Smith at a lower figure...
Meanwhile, for the Raiders, JaMarcus Russell leads the charge in the Cable for Coach campaign;
True NFL insiders aren't wondering where RB/FB Michael Bush came from, just where he's going. And yes, Johnnie Lee Higgins was the only team-leading WR to fall short of 400 yards. Finally, scroll down this piece and see why free agency means the Raiders' run may be over before it began...
Now that we know who finished where, here's a look at how the NFL draft might shake out;
I stand corrected: Marco Belinelli, who quietly went for 23 and 6 vs. Toronto, is more than just an outside shooter — he's a fluid, creative penetrate-and-dish man. Hopeful fans take note, the Warriors lead the league in road games thus far...
Things may seem bad now for your local ball team — but the A's and Giants are trending spendy. So while Sabathia and Furcal sign elsewhere, even ESPN says Oakland is ready to solve problems with green. And the G'ints are better by at least one Unit. Experts at ESPN call it a smart move, and the Giants "borderline favorites"...
In baseball, everybody wants to talk Yankees. I'll say this much: in the history of the league's so-called Luxury Tax, the Yankees have paid 90% of it. With Abreu and co. off the books, their salary figure may actually drop. One A's fan asked: could Nick Swisher open the new stadium in RF, or is his career now permanently off the rails?
The Cuban pitcher with a 0.00 ERA in the first World Baseball Classic has defected, and is heading this way...
Outside of Tim Lincecum, it was a weak '08 — but there's still enough for a Bay Area Best Of. Nationally, check out the best innovations and video games...
Remember, it ain't the holidays without the Tahoe snow...
No matter where, or with whom, or what's for dinner — remember to have a safe and happy final week! Stand by for details: The NOR CAL Report is in store for an exciting '09! And as always, we're so glad to have you with us.
